The next rip-off of the American so called "insured"

I recently received a letter from my medical insurance company, advising me that they are starting a new program to help their customers maintain good health and cut down on medical costs.  Sounds good, right?  Keep reading. In this letter, they advised that I hadn't had my cholesterol checked in a year and that I should make an appointment with my doctor to schedule the test as mine was a little high.  They described the purpose of the test and what exactly is tested (lipids, etc.) They also "suggested" that I schedule a mammogram.  I thought the job of the insurance company was to pay the bills.  They're not doctors.   They're business people practicing medicine without a license.  Isn't that a crime?

A few days later I received a telephone call from my doctor's office advising me that my insurer had contacted them, telling them to call me to schedule an appointment to have my cholesterol tested.  I told my doctor's receptionist that unless the insurance company could guarantee that I wouldn't receive any bills after the testing, I'd be dead or dying before setting foot in their office again.  She then asked me if I was taking any meds.  No, I don't. (I haven't trusted big pharma since they started advertising directly to the people.  I'm a monitor your diet, eat organically and, if I need help, go the herbal route kind of gal.)

Not liking the feel of this at all, I decided to complain directly to the insurance company.  For some reason I was directed to the 24 hour nurse hotline.  She said she could take my complaint and during the process divulged a little info of her own.  This particular nurse received a letter from the insurance company (same as mine) declaring that she was in "non-compliance" because she has not been ordering her heart medicine through them.  Why should she?  She's found them cheaper somewhere else.  "Non-compliance?"  Is your skin crawling?  Does it sound like the vampires are tapping at the window?

pattyc :: The next rip-off of the American so called "insured"
The insurance companies have been allowed to get away with determining who lives and who dies by declaring "pre-existing" conditions uncoverable and certain procedures "experimental".   They have been allowed to  "offer" insurance at quasi-reasonable rates if your healthy, meaning you haven't had to see a doctor within 2 years prior to your application.  They have taken our money every month and then declared "fraud" and refuse to pay bills if we didn't remember a sinus infection 10 years prior to applying for insurance.  Who are these monsters who sit in their steel and glass castles guarded by the legal gargoyles whom all, I'm sure, are fully insured and make boo-koo bucks so as not to have to worry about the barrage of bills after seeing a doctor or God forbid, hospitalization?  Who are these unethical, amoral, above all else the buck first predatory business scum deciding our basic, fundamental right to healthcare that doesn't send us into bankruptcy?  And now, as if all that isn't enough, they're telling us to go to the doctor for specific tests and contacting our doctors advising them to contact us to schedule these tests?

So, here's where my skin begins to crawl.  Here's the next Great American Ripp-off of the So-Called Insured:  You get these letters, you get the call from your doctor, you refuse to be sent spiraling downward into medical bill hell after the test(s) and one or two or 10 years later, you become ill AND these vultures determine that they have no obligation to pay the bills, even though you've continued to pay your premiums, because you were in "non-compliance"  by refusing to be continually tested every year.  Are you scared yet?

THE INSURANCE COMPANIES HAVE TO BE DRIVEN OUT OF HEALTHCARE.  President Obama cannot do it alone - they will not allow it to happen.  The majority of our "representatives" and I use the term "representatives" very, very loosely, are financially beholding to these corporate misfits.  I believe that the President truly wants to make a change but without a major push from ALL OF US, his efforts will be futile.  WE NEED SINGLE PAYOR - NOW, because what we have now will only get worse.

We need to contact our congresspersons, our newspaper editors, our radio and television talk show hosts, the main-stream media which has been co-opted by these parasites and our activist organizations.  We need to contact government agencies that oversee these corporate harpies.  What's your story?  Tell it!  Demand Action on behalf of the people.  Let's start making the corporate blood sucking, financial havoc wreaking ghouls begin to serve our needs instead of us being devoured by them.

Truly it ISN'T our health that they have in mind (0.00 / 0)
I'm glad you posted this, Patty.

It took them awhile.  Do you remember when you could only get a physical once a year and tests had to be authorized because they cost too much and the INS companies didn't want to pay for them.

Then some of them seemed to grow a conscious, and they started to advertise "preventive care."
And in many ways I'm sure you're Doctor would agree, that getting tested every year as we get older IS important.  Not all of us are living as clean a life as you may be and some of us do have pre-existing conditions that need checking from time to time.

But, your right!  The insurance companies aren't doing this to save YOUR ass, it's THEIR bottom line they're looking at.

I'll bet if you dig deep enough you'll find out that the big conglomerate that owns the ins. company may also own a few testing facilities.
And you already got the word from one of their Nurses that if you don't play by the rules you're
going to be non-compliant.  I'm wondering why she was so quick to point that out to you. hmmm.

When I was researching who owns a particular rest home I found out that it was a huge Canadian company that had it's hands in so many pies it would take a full day to trace it all down.

So, they win if you get tested and they also win if you don't, because like you said, if you get sick down the road, YOU were NON-Compliant!
You didn't play by their rules so "pay them now or pay them later."  They don't care, they figured out how to screw us coming and going.

That's why I'm working with OneCareNow.org on a video for Sen. Leno of California for the Single Payer health care program.  That's why I'm the webmaster for LaborForSinglePayer.com, a website for a labor coalition that supports single payer health care.

Keep blogging Patty, and keep telling people what you find out.  The only way our elected officials will understand how strongly we feel about this is by everybody speaking up, joining groups and being counted.  They have to understand that if they don't support us in this we'll find someone who is and elect them instead.

With the current Depression, there I said it the "D" word, the current health system will break down. That's when we must be ready to pounce with a solution.  We really can't afford to have Washington "bail them out."  We need health insurance companies to fail so we can sweep the country clean of them.
